RAILWAYMEN'S WAGES.

WELSHMEN REJECT OFFER. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Jan. 6. The Welsh railwaymen almost solidly Rejected the Government's terms. Several branches instructed their delegates to the conference to urge an immediate strike. The situation, however, has not yet reached a crisis. Of 1340 branches consulted the majority have not declared their intention.

Labor correspondents believe the great body of trade unionists will support Mr. Thomas' opposition to a strike, which leaders of other great unions condemn. It ir, pointed out that the whole Triple Alliance must be consulted concerning a strike, or Mr. Thomas may persuade the conference to submit the question to a new railway committee.—Times Service.

FEAR OF ANOTHER STRIKE. STATEMENT BY MEN'S LEADERS. Received Jan. 8, 11.55 p.m. London. Jan. 8. J. H. Tbomas, M.P. (secretary of the National Union, of Railwaymen), speaking at Kettering, said that the press expressed an opinion adverse to railwaymen on the wages proposal. The press and the public were alarmed at the prospect of another strike, but the leaders would go to Wednesday's meeting with a full sense of responsibility. A strike must always be the last resort. If the other side discussed the question in the right spirit a satisfactory settlement was certain.—Aus.-N.Z! Cable Assn.
