NORTHERN TERRITORY.
A LAW-ABIDING COUNTRY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Darwin, Jan. 8. Mr. F. E. Carey (until recently Administrator of the Northern Territory), replying to questions before the Commission, admitted that he said either Vestey's Meat Company should own the territory or the Government own Vestey's. He told the Federal Treasurer that Vestey's business and the Territory Administration were so mixed up that it was impossible to divorce them. Questioned regarding the troubles tvhieh led to the officials leaving the Territory, he admitted that the population was fairly law-abiding excepting a few extremists and foreigners. Received Jan. 8, 9.25 p.m. Darwin, Jan. S. At the Commission, Mr. Justice Ewing Stated that Mr. Palmer, who was formerly associated with Dr. J. A Gilruth (the late Administrator of the Territory), in Daly River land matters, had left Australia and was believed to be in New Zealand.
