STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspond|nt.) (All communications, letters, etc., left with Mr. H. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will tecelv# prompt attention.) An employee of the Public Works Department at Tahora, named Wilson, was found in his bunk on Tuesday with his throat cut. An inquest ,is to be held. Mr. Cecil Arden on Tuesday severed his connection with the Empire Hotel, after several years tenancy. A youth named Clarence Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs C. 11. Brown, of Pembroke Road, had three fingers of his left hand shattered on Monday owing to an explosion of gelignite. After receiving medical attention he was removed to the hospital.

In connection with the recent two days' race meeting, the secretary of the Stratford Racing Club has just paid £3,854 14s Cd in taxation, the sum being made up as follows: Stake duty, £35; dividend duty, £17!) las Cd; totalisator duty, £2029 19s.

Prior to his departure from Motueka, Wor. Bro. W. Mclnnes, who was the purchaser of Mr. F. Edwards' chemist business here, was presented by Lodge Motueka with a Past Master's jewel, suitably inscribed.

Mr. F. Edwards, of Stratford, wellknown in Hawera, has disposed of his pharmacy, and intends taking an extended holiday.
