DOMINION'S PROSPERITY.
AUCKLAND'S SHARE. PRIME MINISTER OPTIMISTIC. Remarking recently on the exceptionally line weather Auckland enjoyed over the whole of the holiday period, and the ample signs of prosperity that had enabled the people to give themselves over to pleasure-making for a great part of two weeks, the Prime Minister observed: "This (Auckland) end of the Dominion, at all events, has had very fine weather for the holiday season, and there are plentiful evidences of prosperity on every hand. Money seems to be more plentiful, I think, than I have ever known it, and if we are to judge by conditions here there should be no difficulty with regard to our finances for some time to come Nearly the whole of the people I have met are cheerful and optimistic respecting the future, and if we can only avoid industrial trouble for the next year or two the country will get back to normal and all will be well."
In adding a word or two about the financial position, Mr. Massey said: "While we have still a very heavy expenditure going on in connection with our repatriation scheme and matters arising from the war, it will not be necessary for us to ask either this country or Britain for any more borrowed money for quite a considerable time. It is also practically certain now that there will be a satisfactory surplus at March 31st next."
