NEW PLYMOUTH HARBOR.

LAST YEAR'S SHIPPING RETURNS. The returns of the shipping at the port of New Plymouth for the year ended December 31st show a marked increase on the figures for the preceding year. Following are the comparative figures: 1919 1918 Vessels 268 271 Tons. Tons. Net Tonnage .. 141,051 109,378 Imports 71,972 73,019 Exports 32,347 18,637 Total Tonnage handled 104,319 91,050 The figures show a slight decrease in the imports, but a very considerable increase in the exports from the port. They also show that the vessels which berthed at the wharf were of a bigger tonnage than those of the previous year. Six overseas vessels berthed in the harbor during the year, and one of them paid two visits here, the last vessel to come being the fifteenth Home liner to berth at the port. The names of the vessels calling here last year and theif tonnage are as follow: Matatua, 8013 tons, Orissa 5436, Kia Ora 8030 (twice), Whak&taiM 8875, liaramea 5627, Waiwera 6237. The six vessels took from the port 4770 tons of wool, frozen meat, and other produce, the details being as follow: Frozen meat 3987 tons, tallow 402 tons, wool 125 tons, and sundries 256 tons. There were shipped 148,621 freight carcases of meat, consisting of 89,613 carcases of mutton, 21,738 lamb, and 20,623 quarters of beef. The steamer Orissa took awav to the Persian Gulf the oil refinery plant, which was purchased by the Anglo-Persian Oil Company.
