THE STItATFORD SEAT. THE MAGISTERIAL RECOUNT. At the instance of Major J. B. Hine an application for a magisterial recount of the votes in the recent poll for the Stratford Beat was granted, am! it was held at Stratford yesterday. Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, S.M-, wa* the Magistrate, and Mr. Freeman, the returning officer at Hawera, acted as returning officer. As a result of the enquiry, it Ss understood the magistrate is satisfied that, no mistakes have been made, sod i the position is therefore unaltered. j The final re-count, including absMt votes, mads before the inquiry gave the. '■* voting as follows: R. Masters (Lib.-Lab) 3121 Major J. B. Hine (Reform) .. 3064 Mr. Masters is. elected with a majority of 87 votes. It is understod that supporter* of ( Major Hine do not intend to allow the matter to rest here. They are prspar- !! ing a petition to the Government asking that a Supreme Court judge should be appointed to hold a further scrutiny, !
