Wellington, Last Night, During tlio week pnded Jtnvuy 6, twenty-one cases of influenza wsre reported in the Wellington health district* There were eleven cases of pneumonia. Dr. Makgill, acting chief health offi« tar, stated to-day that the Dominion returns for the past fortnight showed * very large diminution in the number of cases of influenza and pneumonia. Dor* ing the week ending December 23 248 cases of influenza were notified throughout the Dominion, whereas in the week ending January 5 there were but 107 notifications. Regarding pneutHßnift,43 cases were notified in the week ending December 22, and 25 cases in the week ending January 6. The chief diminution in influenza was in Auckland, where the number of cases in the week ending December 82 waa 224, while only 78 cases were reported >4 the week ending January S. During the week ending December 22 20 cases of influenza linl 10 cases of pneumonia were notified; and only Ave cases of influenza and fiv» cases of pneumonia were notified during the week ending January 6. Dr. Makgill added that every year for a long time a number of pneumonia cases following influenza had arisen and the existence of such cases is of ver» little significance indeed.
