NOTABLE WAR SERVICE.
RETURN OF lIEUT.-CODONEL G. HOME. There was a largo gathering of per* sonal friends, and many others interested in the return of Lieut-Colonel G. Home, 0.8.E-, at the railway station last evening to greet the doctor and his wife, and daughter, on their arrival from England. Colonel Home has been away from New Plymouth for about Are and a half years, and it wag natural there should be extended to him a very cordial Welcome after so long a period of strenuous service. The Deputy-Mayor (Mr. W. A. Collie) and the deputv chairman of the Patriotic Committee'(Mr. J. W. Chaney) were there in their official rapacities to greet the returning doctor, and the "Welcomß Home" sign bad been Suspended across the platform, to emphasise the cordiality with which, the citizens received Dr. Home.
As the train came alongside the platform and the returning party was espied, there was a rush for the carriage, and cheers were given as the doctor stepped out on to the platform. After greeting relatives there were many per" sonal friends waiting for a hand-shake with the members of the party, and members of the medical profession were also conspicuous amongst 'those present. It was some time after the train's arrival that the party were able to leave the station. The doctor, who was looking well after his long service, expressed pleasure at being back again. Miss Home, who has been engaged in motor driving in connection with war work while in England, was still wearing a distinguishing uniform of a war worker. ;
Colonel Home served in Egypt, where he landed with the Main Body, and went with the New Zealanders to Gallipoli, where he served throughout the campaign. Going to England, Colonel Horn* first worked at the New Zealand hoc pital at Brockenhurst, and later at Walton. Ho was senior medical officer at Walton before returning to New Zealand.
