It must have rained very heavily up country on Sunday night as the Waitnra Itiver had quite a flood in it on Monday morning, and there was a fair amount 01 wood coming down with it. This will be very welcome to quite a number of people now that coal is hard to procure again. The beach was quite a busy place yesterday with people collecting firewood. Mr. 11. Were, of the Bank of New Zealand, To Kuiti, and recently of W'uilara, Was here last week. Tin has been travelling with n party of bowlers who have played in Taihupe, Feilding, Marton, NVanganui. l'atea, Kltluun and New Plymouth ending up at Waitaru. The party left for Te Kuiti on Sunday nioruing. The drawings for the first round of the singles championship of the lofal club ore as follows: —Thursday section. —J. Kempsell, v. Three games in connection with the championship have already been played, resulting as follows: Young beat Telfar, IS to Iloskin beat Bird, ,'io to 15; G. Nosworthy beat C. Sampson, 22 to IC.
