A PRISONER'S REWARD. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Ohristchuroh, Last Night. With eight monthß of bis sentence still pnserved a prisoner named Arthur Patrick McGuire walked out of Lyttelton Gaol on New Year's Day a free man. McGuire, who had been Bent to prison on a charge of false pretences, came to the assistance of Warder James O'Reilly when the latter was seriously assaulted |>y Robert Dickson Warden, another prisoner. Act ins on the recommendation of the authorities the Ooverner-l'eneral recently granted him a full pardon. Warden ivas the prisoner who recently made a eensational escape from Mount Eden and Lyttelton gaols.
GRADING OF TEACHERS. Wellington, Last Night. The Education Institute Committeo appointed to report upon remits referring to grading submitted a series of resolutions. After discussion of these the conference adopted resolutions to the effect that teachers' grading should depend upon efficiency, academic attainments and years of efficient service; that the present quota system was inequitable: and that immediate steps should he taken to establish uniformity of appraisement in grading as between districts.
