FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA.
MATTHEWS AT CONSTANTINOPLE. By Teleerapa—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 4, 5-5 p.m. Fremantle, Jan. 4. Captain C. G. Matthews, the aviator, cables from Constantinople, on December 31: —"I am leaving for Bagdad on January 2. Was unable to communicate from the late enemy country, but hope to keep in touch henceforth. Please convey my congratulations to Ross Smith on his splendid achievement."
[Captain Matthews left London on October 21 and has met with several mishaps and considerable delays. He was the first British airman to start for Australia. Ross Smith, who made the flight, left London on November 12, and Poulet, who is still in India, left Paris on October 14.]
