BOWLING.
NEW YEAR'S TOURNAMENT. Section play was continued on the three New Plymouth greens yesterday, under ideal bowling conditions, and some interesting heads were seen at some of the rinka. Owing to the late hour at which the games between the leaders in the three sections commenced, the semifinals and final could not take place, but will be decided to-day. Details of the play were as follow : SECTION A. (Fitzroy Green.) Fifth Round.—Rundle 14 v. Eraser 13; Oliver 16 v. Townsley 115; Fookes 17 v. Sole 10; Beadle 16 v. King 15. Sixth Round.—Fookes 18 v. Smith in Section C; and in the play-off Beadle 25 beat Petty 23; Riindle 20 beat Jury 18; Branch 23 beat Smith 19. All the games were very keenly contested. Smith' had the misfortune to lose 7 and '4 at Wo heads, but made u good recovery, anil the repult was in doubt up to the last head. SEMIT-FINAL.
- In the semi-final to-day, Branch plays Rundle, and the winner will play Beadle in the final at the West End green today. A curious feature of the scoring at the West Slid green was that sir teams scored 13 each, and five out of the six were lowers.
New Plymouth bowlers will be represented in ,the Christchurch Tournament, which opens on the Bth inst., by a rink, from West End, consisting of Messjft. Putt.F, J. Hill, T. Petfy/abaJ. D. Sole is.), who leave for 'the south on Monday, .jhe jmirs section 1 6'pens the tournament, 844 being engaged. Tliere are 120 rinks .entered, and }n the singles there are 10 sections. of. 18 each.
On .Wednesday, Eltjlam, a rink of bowlers from the T.e. Kqiti.Club, consisting, of .Messrs. Were,. Young, How#rth, and Power (skip), played a local rink, Messrs Drayton, Cast 1 .?, Ross and Bary (skip), winning by 20 to 15.
