Some ship-owners not under the Shipping Controller have agreed to pay the men's claims, and their ships, the names of which are not disclosed, will he manned and sail shortly.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. ■Received Jan. 1. 1-2.5 a.m. Melbourne, Dec. 31. The Shipping Controller has instructed ship-owners to give the masters and officers of idle steamers a month's notice, owing to the possibility of a prolonged strike.—Aus.-N.Z, Cable Assn. Sydney, Dec. 31. There is no alteration in the 'position of the shipping strike. There are now 26 inter-State and Island vessels idle. Received January 1, 7.5 p.m. Sydney, Jan. 1. The engineers of the Inga and the Dmmata have joined the strikers.
