It is intimated that Japan's recent protest against the Pacific-Islands mandates took no exception to tlie areas covered, but expressed a fear that Australia would exercise a closed door against the Japanese in the islands south of the equator, which, Japan pointed out, would be contrary to the spirit of the League of Na-tions.—Aus.-N.Z.
