POPULAR CONCERT.

MR. FRANK AMOORE AT THE EMPIRE THEATRE. It was a disappointing audience that Mr. Frank Auinore faced at the Empire Theatre last (light, when he opened a two-nigtit season of popular concerts. And, furthermore, the singer was placed under another disadvantage inasmurii as several of those who had promised to assist him in his work were prevented at. the last moment from taking part, and he had therefore to make other arrangements hurriedly. He, however, carried the pl'ograrthne through in a very commendable manner, and the audience expressed its appreciation by the enthusiasm with-which it encored hia numbers. Mr. Ainoore restricted himself entirely lafit night to light and popular ballad music, and in the songs selected he sang with evident acceptance. The introduction of the violin oblig'ato part in several of his songs was very pleasing and found favor with the audience 01' the programme numbers last night, Mr. Anvoore showed best in Croke's '•Waiting" and "A String of l'earls," though his singing of "Parted" and "Good-bye" (both by Tosti) earned him Instant encore. His extra numbers included "Absent," "Mary of Argyll," and "Over the Hills of Heart Content." The accompaniments were played by Mrs A. George (who also gave two pianoforte solos), and the obligato parts by Mr. R. | Murphy, and both deserve commenda- | tion for coming to Mr. Amoore's assisti I ance at short notice.

Mr. Ralph Farmer appeared in a number of humorous items which were enthusiastically applauded. He also recited the well-known excerpt from Shakespeare's "Henry VIII," "Cardinal Wolsev'i Charge to Cromwell," and "The Farewell Soliloquy." The concert will be repeated to-night at 8 o'clock.
