The Daily Chronicle states that there liaft been an,- enormous increase in thefts at the London docks, especially of wines and spirits. There have been 1260 convictions in 1919, and the police say that only one in a dozen of the offenders is caught.
The Canadian Government has proclaimed the abrogation of the Wartime Restrictions Act which forbids the use of alcoholic liquors and racing, and has also ordered the release of all military offenders in Canada. It is announced that the Canadian casualties totalled 212,703, of whom the dead from all causes number 63,843. Washington reports state that Marshal Foch will visit the United States. 1 The first liner to leave an American port for Germany since the war has Bailed.
The British Football Association ("soccer") has accented ail invitation to send a team to South Africa in the spring. They will play twelve matches. The Australian Assembly has amended the constitution enabling a special allowance of £2OO yearly to be paid to the Leader of the Opposition.
A proclamation issued in Australia prohibits export of cinematograph films and silver coins.
An anonymous sportsman has subscribed the rest of the £IO.OOO required to make up the Barry Fund.
The Italian Chamber nassed a vote of confidence in the Government by 242 to 2l«.
