The H&wke Cup match between Wangnnu! (challengers) and Poverty Bay (holders) opened to-day In fine weather. The wicket was good but the field was rough. Waugamil batted first and hit up 215 in about 4% hours, the principal scorers being Wood 02, Meull 5S and Orton 43. Poverty Bay had madq, when stumps were drawn, 178 for two wickets; Pere 30, Blair 61, Reeves (not out) 42, Forster (not out) 18. The match will be continued this morning. OTAGO v. SOUTHLAND. Dunedin, Last Night. The cricket match Otago v. Southland was commenced on Christmas afternoon, but rain '•deihyed the start till throe o'clock, when it cleared. The wicket was slow and easy. Southland won the toss, and were all out for 55, Torrance taking seven wickets for 21. I When stumps were drawn, Otago bad scored 108 for aix wickets—Westbrook 40.
