TARANAKI'S VOTE

PREDOMINANTLY PROHIBITION.

The prohibition vote in the four Taranaki electorates was 1358 greater than in April. Stratford showed an increase of C 75, Taranaki 393, and ligmont 374, whilst Patea went back by 84- At the April poll the four Taranaki. electorates gave 13,116 votes for prohibition as against 9732 for continuance; laijt week the prohibition vote was 14,474 and continuance 10,414. The State purchase issue was supported by 945. Adding these to the continuance vote (973*2) the total vote against prohibition was 10,677—a clear majority for prohibition, so far as Taranaki is concerned, of 3797. Reduced to decimals, the voting in favor of prohibition was 57.55 and continuance (plus State control) 42.45, showing that Taranaki predominantly favors the abolition of the drink traffic.
