WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Doc. IS. The Waitara School concert was a great success, the takings being greater than ever before, amounting to over £42. This is a de?ervedly popular entertainment, and Mr. Butler and hi= helpers 011 the stiff deserve great credit for rliet. pains they took to coach the children. The items were all re.ally good and deserved the encores received. Miss •Tean Maine gave some step dances which were a feature of the concert. f-he is a most graceful dancer and was encored both times. The Repatriation Committee met on Wednesday night and dealt with four applications. One, for assistance to increase present stock, was referred to the Executive Committee, with power to act. A returned soldier waited on the committer with reference to getting employment. He is unable to do hard work,' and he stated he would like to try hairdressing. An offer had been made by n, local man, and it was decided that the executive interview him as to what ho was prepared to do. An application to purchase a lorry and carrying business was referred to the executive to get a valuation made, and report. An application for a loan of fiiO was referred to the emergency committee, with power to act. The election at Waitara passed off quietly. There was the usual large crowd in front of the Theatre Royal where the results were being posted up, and a lot of good humored banter vas heard as the results went up. There were several surprises to most people: the defeat of Sir Joseph Ward being one of the greatest. Mr. W. T. Jennings' win was closer than most people thought it would be.
