CONVENT SCHOOLS.
GARDEN' PARTY AND SALE OF WORK. A very successful garden party and sale of work was held in the grounds of the New Plymouth Convent yesterday afternoon in connection with the break-ing-up of the schools and for the purpose of assisting the candidature of the Convent candidate (Miss 51. Fleming) in the Queen Carnival competition in connection with the forthcoming bazaar, to bo held in February next. The function was opened by the Mayor (Mr. Jas Clarke). There were a large number of well laden stalls on the lawn and these" were patronised liberally by the manv visitors who attended the party. There was .1 splendid display of fancy needlework by the pupil.} of'the Convent. The stalls included produce, sweets and drinks, jumble, flowers, afternoon tea and cakes, as well as a Christinas tree and brau tubs, to delight the children. Father Christmas, of course, graced the gathering with his presence, and was the centre of attraction for the little ones. There were a number of competitions conducted during the afternoon, the results of which were as follow: No. 1 plaque, Mrs. C. Honeyfield; No 2 plaque, Mrs. Rnffuloll, Mr. A. Knapp; Christmas cakofi Rev. Mother; measuring distances (turkey), Miss.. Graham: turkey No. 1, Misa McKean; turkey No. 2, Mrs Knight; bean guessing (turkey), Miss M. Jones; sachet, Miss Moose. The total takings amounted to about .€55, which will go further the interests of the Convent queen candidates, Mrs. J. Nolan and Miss E. Hurley managed the garden party.
