, Mr. Alexander Burt, senr., of Dunefiln, head of the firm of Messrs A. and T. Burt, is reported to be seriously ill. Mr. R. W. Porter, Inspecting AuditorGeneral, Pout Office, has been on promotion, thief postmaster at Invercarjjill, in succession to Air. D. Sfc 1 George, retired. , Mr .J. Patterson, of New Plymouth, * has been notified that his son, Corporal , V. J. H. Patterson, of the 38th Reinforcements, is returning by the Rua- ! pehu, which is expected at Wellington about January 25. At the meeting of the Taranaki Hospital Board yesterday, Dr. E. A. Walk-. ~ or, the medical superintendent, reported that Nurses Siddons, Farley, Hall, Bcrrj and Rolston had passed the hospital «i ■ amination in surgery and medicine. . '■
The efficient work performed by Mr j E, Holden, secretary of the Hoepita' ' Board, in looking after the interests o the Board, was referred to in apprecia tive terms by the chairman (Mr. M, i Fraser) at the meeting of the Tarwukl ji Hospital Board yesterday, his remarks 3 being endorsed by every member, refer- '.\ enco being also made to hia services * during the epidemic.
