JURORS' FEES.

DELAYS IN AUTHORISING INCREASES. MR. S. G. SMITH'S REPRESENTATIONS. A day or two ago Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., was approached concerning fees payable to jurors. As a result he wired as follows to the Minister of Justice: "Jurors attending Supreme Court sittings here express indignation at the failure of the liovernment to issue regulations under the Jurors' Act, 1919, providing for increased allowance to jurors and strongly urge that the issue of the regulations be expedited and payment be made retrospective." The Minister (the Hon. J. G. Coates) has wired in reply: "OTder-in-Counci! prescribing increased fees to be paid to jurors is now before the Crown Law Office for revision." The Act passed this year provides that the Governor-General may from time to time, by Order-in-Council, prescribe the rates of fees and allowances to be paid to jurors.
