GERMAN BRUTALITY.
PRUSSIAN MILITARISM UNCHANGED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Dec. 12, 10.25 p.m. London, Dec. 8. The Berlin correspondent of the Daily Telegraph states that the evidence at Marloh's trial has concluded.
The case has developed into a political scandal of the first rank, and shows that the spirit and methods of Prussian militarism are unchanged under the Republican Government. No exposure the old regime revealed such a disregard for human life.
Marloh's superiors, including Colonel Reinhard and Captain von Kesser, urged Marloh to abscond in order to prevent the disclosure of his superiors' instructions. Marloh refused until offered half a million marks. No attempt was made before shooting the victims to prove that they had participated in a Spartacist rising. Many were actually most reliable members of the forces. Marloh chose those looking the most intelligent and, therefore, presumably the ringleaders. One was shot on a charge of plundering, because he wore a watch which was his wife's Christmas present. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
