A GENERAL STRIKE. PATRIOTIC DEMONSTRATIONS. Received Dec. C, 5.5 p.m. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rome, Dec. 2. In consequence of certain unexplained incidents, a general strike has been dedared in Rome, Milan and Florence. The stoppage is complete. The strike has occasioned patriotic demonstrations everywhere. There have been no disturbances, except at Milan, where two demonstrators were killed in a collision with the police.—Reuter Service. OPENING OF THE CHAMBER. Rome, Dec. 1. At the opening of the Chamber the King said he favored greater participation of the Labor Party in the councils Of the nations. He had an enthusiastic reception in the streets where several Socialist leaders were mobbed and rescued by the police. Owing to the riots several persons were killed in the streets. The ex-Premier, Signor Orlando, a Government candidate, defeated the Socialist Lazzari by 251 votes to 143 for the presidency of the Chamber.
