CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. * A meeting of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce was held last evening. Thoso present were.—Messrs. J. B. Richards (chairman), P. Thomson, W. P. Kirkwood, C. Martin, W. A. Hewitt, and W. Power (secretary). The Hon. J. B.'Hine wrote, stating that lie was communicating with the Post-urmster-General in reference to the Chamber's request that a telephone connection lie established between Tabora and Tatu. The Minister also wrote, stating that the Commissioner of Crown Lands had t>een asked to impress upon the Sawrnilling Company the necessity for expediting as much as possible the cutting of the timber in Waro-Pouatu survey district. It. was pointed out, however, that in the conditions of sale a period of sis years was allowed for cutting, and it was possible, if the timber could not be got out In that time, that the period would be extended. —Received. A discussion took place over the delay in fixing on a site for the new post jlfice. It was pointed out by the chairli.an that Mr. McVilly had promised about j three months ago to visit Stratford, probably in a month's time. This promise liad not been kept. It was decided to again' write to Mr. McVilly, requesting, him to visit Stratford as early as possible, and it was also decided to place before the PostmasterGeneral the urgent need for a new post office. It was decided to wttte to the sergeant of police regarding acts of larrikinism. in the street. The secretary was asked to write to the District Telegraph Engineer in refere:»co to the delay in dealing with applications for telephone installations.. SHOW MATTERS. The following were the takings at the Startford A. and P. Show, the figures for the last show being given in parentheses: -Gate £289 lis 3d ( £2OO 17s); refreshment room £230 5s 9d ( £145 8s 9d), tea kiosk £ll7 10s fld (£llß 15s 10tl,. weight-guessing £45 6s (£33 16s). grandstand £lO Is 6d (£8 19s), space and shows £75 ISs ( £l7 8s 6d), catalogues £8 14s Cd ( £5 19s).—Total, £777 15s Sd ( £331 4s). The 50 guinea trophy for most points in Friesians, presented by Mr. Campbell Jackson, was won by Mr. L. Hitchcock, of Manaia, with 50 points, Messrs. Marchant and Sons (Cardiff) being second, with 30 points To become the property of the exhibitor, the trophy must be won twice in succession, or three times at intervals. SWIMMING CLUB. At a general meeting of the members of the Stratford Swimming Club, held last evening, the hours for bathing were fixed as follows :r—Ladies, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, in the afternoon, from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursdays, and from 0 a.m. on Sundays; men. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, in the afternoon, and up (ill 9 a.m. on Sundays. A motion expressing thanks to Mr. A J. Davey for a medal for most points gained in races during the season was passed. Mr. Dutson was appointed treasurer, and the following vice-presidents wer? elected:—Messrs. J. W. McMillan, A. Tt Masters,-W. H. H. Young, J. H. Quinn, T Theobald, J. McCluggage, J. R. L. Stanford, F. Whittle, W. P. Kirkwood, R. E Abraham, C. Arden, J. W. Boon, T. Thomson, A. Coleman. D. J. Malone, .1. 11. Ashton, J. 11. Thompson, Doctors Ste vens, Gordon and Carbery. The member for the district was elected patron. GENERAL. Mr. J. Irvine, oi Denbigh Bead, had his leg badly fractured while stumping on his farm last week, i'lie injury resulted from the slipping of a jack he waa working. Mr. Irvine, who is now in the hospital ,is making good progress. For the month of November, three, inches of rain-were registered at StratI ford.
