S. Brooker, It. L Parkin, and the, general manager (Mr. R T. Bellringer). The engineer reported that he proposed to cmnloy all available men. vith the exception of surfaceman, on tar sealing work. " He further reported that the tar patching g'ang was about to commence work on the streets. , THE AVENUE ROAD. The Taranaki County engineer reported that his Council intended to continue (he asphalting of Avenue Road, and for this purpose it was necessary to re-grade (he hill at Cliff's corner. The work was estimated to cost -CIJ2. ! It was pointed out that this was a boundary road, and the Tioroiigh Council would be required to conlribufo half the cost if it approved of the work. The Mayor said he was not prepared to authorise the expenditure of £7O +V>this work. r«^g^ The matter was- referred to tluj Works Committee. STREET WORKS. The streets sub-committee presented a number of recommendations in regard to street works. The report was mainly on (he lines of the lengthy report recently before the Council. The committee suggested that the borough engineer should be instructed to vubmit a modification of the proposed work in Cut field Road in order to bring ih'.: cost within the amount available.— The recommendation was adopted, The committee suggested that, the lowing authorities for work in the £IO,OOO Loan be cancelled:—Ariki Street. King Street, Queen StreetAgreed to. It was also recommended that the following works in'the £.10.000 Loan bo authorised as stand-by work during th? repair of the tarred streets, the work to be carried out in,the order which may fit in most, conveniently with the work on the tarred strefts':— Courtenay Street, (Tobson Street to Watson Street, ;Cl(i:l; Dawson Street, Devon Street, to Voiuiii Street, X.\M; Lemon Street, Cover Street to llobson Street, ,-C22.'t; Pendarres Street, Cover Street to. Eliot Street, ;Cir>7 ; Vivian Bridge to Brougham Street, £ls3.—Total, £SJ<i. A LABOR DISPUTE. The Labor Disputes Committee reported that the Council had been cited as ft party to the industrial dispute between the New Plymouih Motor liar and Ca>and Horse Drivers' Union. The Council Was at present paying wages at the rates claimed, The hours of work were half an hour less than those at present worked by the Council's drivers. The Council's horse drivers were members of the General Laborers' Union, and arc, bound by the agreement with that Union. —No action was taken.
