STRATFORD.

I (From Oui Own Cotresponitent.) j (All communications, letters, etc., left with ! Mr. 11. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will receive : prompt attention.) I Dec. 1. The annual report of the Stratford Amateur Swimming Club, after referring to the war, suggested that a board be erected at the baths, setting out in a' simple manner the part taken in the war by members of the club, some of whom had made the supreme sacrifice. Only one carnival had been held during the year, and, as afcout £l2 had been spent in trophies, it was not surprising that it had no more than paid expenses. It was hoped, during the present season, to bring the sport back to pre-war standard. The playing of water polo should be encouraged, and a match against visiting teams would form an attractive feature at in-ter-club carnivals. A sum of £2l had been voted recently to the school committee for the purpose of making the seating and staging safe, putting the spring-board in order, and erecting a chute. This just about used up the credit balance, and steady support would be needed from the public, to carry on for the present season. Funds should lie raised for increasing the dreasing-room and seating accommodation. The Stratford Druids' Lodge will hold its installation ceremony to-morrow (Tuesday) night, when a roll of honor to members who have been on active service will be unveiled. The congregation of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, who have for some time been without a minister, have unan-, imously decided to extend a call to the Rev. J. W. McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie commenced his studies for the ministry at the Otago University, taking his theological course at Knox College Theologicall Hall, and completing his course at the Glasgow Theological College. He I served with the forces during the war j for nearly four years, and gained the military modal for conspicuous gallantry. During the past three weeks he has been j filling the pulpit at St. Andrew's as supply- j Tue attention of people passing along Broadway yep terday was arrested by the strange use to which the flagpole over the post office had been put—namely, the glorification of beer.
