BY-ELECTION RESULTS. LADY ASTOR WINS SEAT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Nov. 25. The by-election for South Croydon resulted: Sir Allan Smith (Coalition Unionist) 11,777; Houlder (Lioerai) 8573. [At the general election the voting Was: lan Malcolm (Coalition Unionist) 17,813, H. T. Muggeridge (Labor) 7006], • i London, Nov. 28. The Plymouth election resulted: Lady Astor .14,493, Gay (Laborite) 9292, "Foote (Liberal) 4130. At the general election the voting was Major Hon. Waldorf Astor (Coalition Unionist) Gay (Labor) 5334, Captain Ransom (Liberal) 3488. Major Astor has succeeded to his late father's title and has gone to the House of Lords. Lady Astor is an American and was a widow when' she married Mr. Astor in 1906. She has three sojis and one daughter. Lady Astor will be the first woman, to sit in the House of Commons for, though Madame Markievicz was elected as a Sinn Feiner for the St. Patrick's Division of Dublin, die was ineligible as she was married to an alien. [Countess Markievicz has been known as the leading figure in the Sinn Fein movement. She took part in the Dublin rebellion in 1916, and received a life sentence to penal servitude. She was released, but was re-arrested in May, 1018, and interned. She was again released early this year.] ANOTHER BY-ELECTION. Received Nov. 30, 11.40 p.m. London, Nov. 28. The Chester-le-Street by-election resulted: Lawson (Labor) 17,838, Gilmour (National Democrat) 5313. r [At the general elections;, J. W.
