SPORTING.
TURF TOPICS. (By "Jloturoa.") The next excitement in the sporting world will bo 'the Feuding J.C. Spring meeting, which takes place on Saturday and Monday. First, day's acceptances arc fairly numerous, though stronger- field l ; might, have been carded for the, St. Andrew's and Hurdles handicaps. Host of the, lending stables will be represented at the. gathering Messrs. W. E. Kcmball, Highden, W. Duncan. Jas. Bull jnr., A. Alexander, A. McDonald, and others haying big teams entered. Light showers fell at Follding on Wednesday, and the tracks are lu good order, According to most of the double sharts. Hose Tink, Dusky Eve, and Snub have been most in demand for tho St. Andrew's Handicap, and short , prices ai« quoted about the trio combined with Demos, Blrkenrale, and Dribble. If the WTlter were inclined to patronise the "books" the chances of Marqueteur and Dribble would, at the price, have greater appeal. The platers at, Feilding are not a very select lot. but Festival, by Hallowmas —Cruoinella, showed speed when he ran Kyoto to a neck at Otaki. Consistent form has also been shown by Simon, and another that may show up is Esperantlst, The latter Is trained at Bulls liy b,T owner, Mr. A. Moss, and both owner and neddy are well-known at Hawera. Whiro is a. cut above the hack hurdlers likely to be seen 'out at tho meeting, but he lias a fair weight, 11.5, and Zeus 10.2, and Combustion 10.7 may trouble him in the strnjsfct. Yankee. -Tack Is likely lo start favorite in the Spring Hurdles. Jim Coyle has him looking nice and fresh now, and he races best when not overdorie. Gang Awa.' has earned most of his weight over the bis fences, and does not appear well treated, Maraetotara' has won over a mile and a hair, but may not see nut the extra half. Pnnnnul is a good horse when sound, but the tracks have been against him lately. Old Sir Donald is on tho down [rrade; in fact, has been heading lliat way for some years, and Ngakanui and C'heval appear to fte in their wrong class. There is a rattling good crowd in tho Plying, and thero is not. a bail one In tile thirteen. Hymestra, though beaten in Australia, r.Tn several great, races under bigger weights that he Is set to carry at Feilding, and he should run a great rare on Saturday. Chimera was a consistent performer last season, but may hardly he tuned up yet. Dribble has shown splendid form under Luke Wilson's guidance, and (here was a touch of brilliancy in the way she led the Fendalton Handicap field at Illccarton from end to end, and then successfully stalled off Eleus and Royal Stag. On that performance she should have been in tit St. Andrew's Handicap, but alio sprints as well as she runs* over middle distances, and her party fancy her greatly at Feilding. Demos showed something like his old form at Ilicearton, and If tho racing has not knocked hlra a twister he may run well. Jutland has, failed to fulfil expectations, an«l may not. ho a top-notchor after all. The lightweights are a fairly even lot, but Carmel Arch may prove the smartest. It is< haTd toestimato tho strength of the Pending Stakes, as most of tho horses have been left in through oversight. Posalbly Acrc. Affectation, Kipling, Croesus. Silver Link, and Hot.aua will see tho post, in which caso the classic even will bo worth its place on the programme. Ifnse Wreath Is the most, discussed candidate In tho Tvtwltea Welter. She showed great, form at Rlccarton, and but. for bolting before tho Oaks would have won that event. Outside the Hilbrone'y Ally the Issue looks very open. Punters will finish up tho day with a big field in the Fltzroy Handicap. Coolpan, Admyra, Egmont Park, Nemaltne, and Kyoto can 811 run a good six, but Admyra is said to be something above the ordhury or common l /amine tuuM i
