Colonel R. J. Collins, C.M.G., (Comptroller and Auditor-General), is at present on a visit to New Plymouth. Mr. J. S. Counett was yesterday reelected chairman of the Taranaki County Council for the current year. The Chrißtchurch Hospital Board yesterday accepted the resignation of Dr. W. Fox, Medical Superintendent.—Press Association. A Wellington telegram reports tho death of Mr. John Duncan, chairman of directors of Levin and Co., in hi* Qht year. At the statutory annual meeting .ot the Clifton Comity Council, held yesterday, Mr. R. H. Pigott was re-elected chairman. Sir TV. Bassett Edwards was unable to pre ,1c over the Supreme Court at Wanganui yesterday owing to a sadden attack of illness. ■ Mr. Con Strack, 8.A., has been appointed to a position at the Kapler Hoys' High School. He will take up his duties in February next. The Rev. W. Bullock, of England, Who is visiting New Zealand in the interests of the C.E.M.S., is at present in New Plymouth in order to confer with the members of tho newly-constituted Archdeaconry Board of Taranaki. Major-General Sir Alexander Godlejj has relinquished the appointment of General Officer Commanding the Nvif Zealand Expeditionary Force, as from November 1, 1919. T Mr. and Mrs L. Luckin and who have been residents of Opunake for 1 many years, left on Saturday for Elf tham, in which town they will in future* reside. \ On Sunday next at the Basilica im Wellington, Mr. W. O'Donnell, eldest sora of the late Mr. and Mrs. .\L .T. CDonnellL formerly of Hawera, will be ordained) priest by the Archbishop. He has beem studying for .some years in the Old/ Country. j Mr. IT. B. Gray, who has occupied the' position of chief accountant of the WeU lington Meat Export Company, Ltd., for the past twelve years, and formerly ojf the Christchurch Meat Company, baa been appointed general manager of thi Taranaki Farmers' Meat Company, vice Mr. J. Milne, who has accepted the) position of general manager of the WelJ lington Meat Export Company, Ltd. 1 When the new department of Forestry was first set up under Sir Francis Belt it was early announced that the Gov* eminent 'would appoint a Director, and) that applications for the position wouldS be invited from over-seas. The appoint! ment could not well bo made until after; the war, but it has now been made. Thi appointee is Captain Leon Mackintosh) Ellis, a graduate with honours of the) Toronto School of Forestry. Captai* Ellis has had experience in Canada, the) United States of America, France and,' the United Kingdom. i Lieutenant - Colonel Dillon - Carberjr C.8.E., N.Z.M.C., of Stratford, who ref turned by the Arawa last week, is visity ing Wellington. For the past six months) Colonel Carbery has been engaged ii London on the compilation of the NeW Zealand medicU history of the war fo* the New Zealand Government. Wheaf completed this will form an important contribution to the local war literature* for it will not deal only with the medical aspect of the war, but will also include much descriptive material of the Tarioui campaigns in which the New Zealandera, —particularly the field ambulanceswere engaged.
