GENERAL BIRDWOOD.

INVITATION TO NEW ZEALAND f SUGGESTED. In connection with the visit to Anstralia of General Birdwood ("the soul *f Anzac," as he has been termed) a desire appears to be general that an invitation should be extended to the famous Boldier and leader to visit New Zealand also. The following letter has been forwarded to the Prime Minister (the Right Hon. W. F. Massey) by Mr. R. F. £T. Aldrich, secretary of the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association:— "It hag been reported in the daily Press recently that General Birdwood Will be visiting Australia in the near future, and I have been instructed by my committee to inquire whether your Government intends also to extend an Invitation <0 the General to visit these shores. Jn suggesting that this should be done, my committee feels confident that not only will General Birdwood receive a most cordial welcome from returned soldiers throughout the Dominion, by whom he is regarded as a personal friend, but also by the general public, which is fully aware of the manner he has endeared himself to the men of the Anzac Corps. My committee therefore trusts, if indeed it has not already been done, a most pressing invitation will be extended to General Birdwood at the earliest possible moment."
