GERMAN MINE.

WASHED ASHORE NEAR MOKAU, 1 FOURTH OFF TARANAKI. . The New Plymouth police and the Collector of Customs were advised early yesterday morning that another Gorman submarine mir.e had been, washed a shore on the coast slightly sor.t/h of the Mokau River. As soon as the mine was discovered it was made secure by Constable Blaikie, who passed a wire around it. There is some ground for the belief that the mine had been on the shore some time before it was discovered, as it was partly submerged in the sand. The police, suit word of the discovery to their headquarters, and the Collector of Customs acquainted the Naval Adviser's office, and it is expected a demolition party will arrive by the mail train to-night and proceed to the locality tomorrow Some anxiety is felt by Mokau residents on account of the proxir.-ity of the mine to tlie township, especially in view of the experience at Awakino recently, when a mine that came ashore there, and exploding when it came in contact with the rocks, did some damage to houses a few miles inland. A suggestion has been made that it should be towed out to sea and exploded. This makes the fourth mine that has been accounted for along the North Tar.iliaki coast line. One was exploded about last Christmas on the beach at Oaonui, another at Oakura, and a third came ashore and exploded near Awakino.
