THE NEW ITALY.
POLITICAL CHANCES. SOCIALISTS IN POWER. j By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. . Received Nov. 25, 1 a.m. Rome, Nov. 21. For the first time since the restoration of Italian unity the country has real national representation. Many political changes are likely, including the resignation of Signor Tittoni. Socialists number over 150, and probably will be the biggest party in Parliament. They will immediately demand demobilisation and the removal of the Ministers for War and the Navy, replacing them by civilians. The Socialists will also demand an enquiry into the conduct of the war, the Coporotto disaster, and the failure to accept the various peace proposals. It is expected that the non-Socialist parties> will form a bloc to resist the Socialists. Rome, Nov. 21. It is estimated that the new Chamber will include nearly 400 new men. The greatest defeat was sustained by the Giolittians, who once numbc-od 300, and now have eight members, while 'the Socialists have 155, .the Catholics !)8, the Liberals and Conservatives 137, the Democrats and Independents 80, the Reformists 16. exciting session is! anticipated, in View of the Socialist predominance. [ln Italy the dominating factors at the elections were the Fiume affair and the economic situation. The one has strengthened the Nationalist Party, with a military clique at its head and D'Anntuizio as its hero; the other has given power to a vigorous Socialist group with revolutionary tendencies.]
