INTERVENTION IN MEXICO. THREE YEARS' WAR POSSIBLE. By Telegraph.—-tress Assn.—Conyrtelit. Washington, Nov. 21. The State Department announces that, in view of the Mexican situation disclosed in 1916, the General Staff estimated that 400,000 men would be required for a three years' war in a successful intervention in Mexico. SUGAR CONTROL. GERMAN LINERS GIVEN UP. Washington, Nov. 21. President Wilson has revived the wartime control of sugar in order to cope with the virtual famine existing in the United States. The Federal Government has handed over the former German liner Imperator to the British Shipping Ministry. It is believed other vessels will follow, as owing to the non-ratification of the treaty, American title to vessels does not exist,—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
