THE MINERS' DISPUTE.
QUESTION OF FURTHER ACTION. ' (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent,) Wellington, Last Night. At the annual meeting of the New; Zealand Coal Mine Owners' Association on Saturday, the miners' dispute was; fully discussed and the question of any* further action to bo taken was left in the hands of the executive. It is likely that the next move in th«i dispute will come from the Government.. Mr. Massey stated during the session: that he was in communication with the parties. It has been indicated that hn suggested another conference with an independent chairman. The miners representatives did not respond to thii suggestion at first, but they are.desirous now of having a conference witli the mine-owners, who have said already that another conference is not neces* sary. All the matters open for discussion were threshed out thor, oughly in August. Probably the? would acceed to a direct request froni the Government subject to certain oon< (fitions. The present position of the coal mines' dispute was discussed at the annual meeting of the Mine Owners' Federation, but the matter of taking further action was left in the hands of the executive. The following officers of the association were elected:—President, Mr. W. Reece (Cliristchurch), vice-pre-sident, the Hon. E. W. Alison; executive, Sir George Clifford, Messrs. Flavell, Weston and Owen.
