News was received here this inornin« that Dr. Wliitton, \vl„, for the past four years lias practised in Jnglewood, had passed away at his home in New l'lvmouth. -Mr. W. Bailey, wlio for the r*st in years lias acted as postmaster here, was the recipient of a presentation this Friday i'\-eiiin Si 0 f a roll ol' notes from his friends, previous to his departure on Monday morning next. .Mr. Bailey has seen over 40 years in the department, having being posted at Blenheim. Foxton. I'.yell (West Coast), (hvvruouth, Heeftnn, JTawera and Inglowood. Mr. i;iii!'.'y_ .has been "ranted tliree months' holiihi' -and retires on superannuation. Mr PiUherlaiid (Mayor) mado the presentation in a felicitous speech, and was followed b- several other townsmen, who eulogised the services of Mr Bailey. The .Mayor, in ITis speech to-night,"re-marked that dm-ine the coming'year a scheni" would he formulated and submitted to the ratepayers for the building of municipal offices.
