WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Nov. 18. The slaughtering season at the freezing ivorks is expected to start on Monday next. Both cattle and sheep are offering. Mr. E. Beckbessingcr, who has been laid up for the past five or six weeks, is about again, and looking better for the rest. The oil launch Marakopa, which went on the beach at Mohakatino, has been smashed up by the heavy seas, and ia a total loss. : The Harbor Board sections, which were put up to auction on Saturday, were not keenly competed for, though' they were sold Sections- i) and 10 fetched £5 and £5 5s respectively. The upset price was £4 10s. They were purchased by Mr. H. Thorn. Sections 11 and 12 were sold to Mr. H. Thorn and Lund and Sampson at the upset price, viz., £O. Master D. Purdie, who is employed at Messrs. Borthwiek and Sons', received a misty fall from his bicycle yesterday, through the forks collapsing. He is thought to be suffering from concussion of (he brain. The electoral campaign was opened at Waitara last night by Mr. A. K. Wilson, who gave his views on the political questions of (he day. Owing to the meeting not being advertised until yesterday, (here wits only a poor audience. He was accorded a vote of thanks. The Waitara Bowling Club is acquiring a lot of now members, no less than 17 having joined since the season opened.
