SOME HUMOROUS PASSES.

AT MB. MASSEY'S HEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, Last Night. There were several somewhat humorous interjections at the Premier's meeting here to-night. When he reierred to) the gratuity for soldiers, he said the Government had thought out the fully. A voice: They thought well and long? Mr. Massey said it was well that the matter had been fully thought out be 1 cause it enabled the Government to Ao what was right, and the soldiers wee satisfied. The Government had fixed a gratuity involving an oxpenditme at six million pounds, and the payments were progressing so well that it was hoped every soldier would have his gratuity before the Christmas holidays. "I do not mean by that that I want the soldiers to spend their gratuities ip Christmas festivities," added Mr- Massey- "I hope they will all settle dowm and make good use- of their money, and expend it on their farm, their business; or their home, or make some good use of it. " A voice: The Government will get most it back in stamp duty! f Mr. Massey: I wish to deny thai suggestion. The gratuities are paid ta the credit of the men, and the Govern? ment will not touch a penny of the money. * ' A voice: It will all go back to tho Government in some way! Mr. Massey: W r ell, money was mado round to go round, wasn't it? / As Mr. Massey proceeded, a man Interjected: "You are all right, Billf I have voted against you for twenty-five-years, but I am with you new," but the. applause which followed was turned to laughter when someone interjected :"Ggi on! He hasn't got a vote!" /
