THE PRIME MINISTER.
HIS MOVEMENTS IN TARANAKI. (By Wire.—Special Reporter.) Elttiam, Night. The Prime Minister (the Right Hon. VV. F. Massey), accompanied by his private secretary (Mr. F..D. Thomson) arrived here by the mail train to-night from Wellington. Mr. Massey was met at the railway station by a large gathering of citizens, and was welcomed to Eltham by the Mayor (Mr. (J. VV. Tayler), Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., and Mr. Hawken, the Reform candidate. Mr. Massey addressed a crowded meeting in the Town Hall in the evening. To-morrow Mr. Massey will visit the public schools after breakfast, and will then go to the .Town Hall, where he will receive a civic reception. Deputations will occupy the remainder of the morning. In the afternoon he will attend a pardon party arranged by the Presbyterian Church, to be held at Mr. Wilkinson's beautiful grounds, after which he will visit the Salvation Army Home. In the evening the Premier goes to Hawera, where he will attend a private meeting of the Reform Party and receive deputations. Though no arrangements have vet been made beyond this, it is probable Mr. Massey will return to Wellington on Friday morning. One of the deputations to be received here, will be from local bodies in reference to the re-openijig of the Mount Eemont stone quarries. The Opunake Harbor Board, and the Opunake Town Board have matters to place before the' Premier, and the Eltham Racing Club will seel; a permit for a race meeting.
