FARM AND DAIRY.
VALUE OF ENSILAGE. In tho last issue of Tho Farmer appears a most interesting article, which should prove uf great valuß to ensilage makers, and if the process given in the paper is followed in this country it will revolutionise the curing of tliis class of winter fodder. From experiments carried out in America, under the supervision' of Dr. L. L. Dailies, a State bacteriologist, It would appear that by the introduction of a bacilli culure the tactic acid is developed aud the alcohol contained in the ensilage is destroyed leaving Intact the sugar and starch, and .the feeding value is thus Increased by 50 per cent. Another advantage gained by this process Is that all loss by decay and mould is eliminated, and as a small vial of the culture Introduced Into three hogsheads of water is sufficient to cure 200- tons of ensilage, tho cost cannot be great, It would be rather a good idea if the authorities were to Investigate the matter and glvo farmers hi this country an opportunily of trying tho experiment.
