DIRTY BLANKETS.
SUPPLIED TO A TRANSPORT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Nov. 17. Mr. McCarthy, S.M., gave his decision Hi is morning in the case against Brown's Heighbury Laundry under the war regulations, for breaking a contract entered into with the Crown in respect to cleaning certain blankets for the transport Pakeha, a;id in the case against Henry Eugene Street, manager of the laundry, who was charged with having aided and abetted the breaking of the contract.. The magistrate said the company jnust be convicted, even though the directors were unaware of the" act of the manager and disavowed it as soon as they were aware of it. The company was fined £IOO and costs. With regard to Street, the magistrate Baid the act of which defendant has been found guilty was committed with callous disregard of the ultimato consequences not only to those who might thereafter use the unwashed blankets, but to those who might be called upop to suffer through the spread of some infectious disease which might have devastated a whole community. He had decided not to imprison defendant, but the penalty must be substantial. He would be convicted and fined £SO and P"V costs. Leave of appeal was grant-
