A London cable announces that Lord Boatty, Lord Rawlinson and Lord Byng took their seats in the House <jf Lords. Mr. B. C. Lysaght has been appointed the Hawera County Council's representative on the Egmont National Park Board. A London cable states that Rhodes lias signed a professional league contract to assist' the Haslingden Club next season, thus finishing his career as a county cricketer. It is understood that he regrets his signature, but the club claims that it is binding. On Friday evening, Lieutenant Grant, V.C., was entertained by the Hawera Fire Brigade and warmly congratulated on his return itnd on the distinction he had won. He was presented with a three years' service certificate, live years' service medal and two years' service bar, making a total of nine years' service in fire brigade work. Q.M.S. Collis, son of Mr and Mrs W. A. Collis, of Vivian Street, arrived home on Saturday night, having returned to New Zealand by the troopship Paparoa. Messrs Coombs and Crockett, who also returned by the same transport, arrived on Saturday night, bringing English brides with them. Misses Girdler and Watkins, who are at present visiting New Zealand as an Imperial delegation to investigate tin; opportunities in regard to women emigrants from Great Britain, arrived in New Plymouth on Saturday night, and are staying at the White Hart Hotel. The Hawera Countv Council on Saturday appointed Mr. B, C. Lysaght its representative on the Hawera Technical High School, in succession to Mr. J. S. Murdoch, who is at present absent from the colony on business connected with Hie dairying industry. A pleasing little ceremony took place at the Park Tennis Club's courts on Saturday afternoon, when the members gathered to make a presentation to Mr H. J. Wells, who is severing his connection with the club. Mr. Wells has beep treasurer of the club since its inception, and his services were eulogisgd by Mr, F. Tribe (secretary) who, in the absence of the president, handed to Mr Wells, as a token of his fellow members' appreciation of his work, a fountain pen, wishing him good success in his new undertaking. Mr. Wells suitably acknowledged the gift.
