SOLDIERS AND THE PREMIER. -, ATTEMPT TO RUSH HOTEL. POLICE CHARGE WITH BATONS. By Telegraph.—Press Asan.—Copyright. Received Nov. 8, 12.5 a.m. Sydney, Nov. 7. After elaborating the Nationalist policy at the Town Hall, Mr W. M. Hughes, (the Commonwealth Premier), retired to his hotel: A crowd of "Diggers" assembled at the hotel, apparently with the object of demanding a cash gratuity. When Mr Hughes refused to appear, the mob attempted to burst open the doors of the hotel. A melee ensued, in which the police were stoned. One constable was injured, and was conveyed to hospital. The police then charged with batons, and dispersed the crowd_ —Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
