The State Department has refused to ask the Mexican Government to reimburse the ransom money paid to bandits on behalf of Mr William Jenkins, the American Consul, at Puebla, Mexico.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. (Mr Jenkins was kidnapped by three masked bandits, and was held for ransom for £30,000. The Department of State sent a Note to Mexico, demanding that the Government bring about the immediate release of Mr. Jenkins. The State Department pointed out to Mexico that she must pay the ransom if necesaary.)
