Owing to the American strike and the consequent coaling difficulties the steamers Ru&hine and Rimutaka, carrying troops and' passengers to New Zealand, were diverted to Capetown, instead of Panama. Ships leaving New Zealand are, similarly, coaling at Durban, wher* coal costs 40s per ton, and at Capetown where it costs 47s 6d per ton, compared with £7 at Monte Video on tb* Horn ronte.—Times Service.
