THE APPROPRIATION BILL.
SOME OF ITS PROVISIONS, (By Wire—Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Last Night. The Appropriation Bill passed by Parliament to-day provides for the appropriation of £ 12.243,000 out of the consolidated fund, £3,040,4*87 from the public works fund, and £2,247,611 out of separate accounts. Tho compensation promised by the Prime Minister and the Government to compensate the butter producers for expenditure under the equalisation fund is provided, the sum being £340,000. Superannuated public servants doing extra services for the Government after their retirement are not to suffer loss of allowances if the aggregate amount received as pay and allowance does not exceed £26 iis per month. A clause in the Bill enables the Government to pay to the Governor-General his salary and allowances for three months after his appointment has terminated. A new clause authorises the Commissioner to pay to any. officer of the clerical or professional divisions of ihe public service an increment in excess of that provided for in the classification list if the officer has shown special merit. The Commissioner is authorised to extend the maximum salary for any class by an amount not exceeding" £2O per year. The former provision comes into operation at the end of the present financial year and the latter at the beginning of the present year. Authorities are taken for the payment of additional salaries in certain cases to officers of the post office who have received increments of less then £45 in the regradin?. The amount of such increase is limited to £2O per year.
