SATURDAY COMPETITIONS. The crlcke)!. competltrfns 'werei cowled a stage further on Saturday afternoon, when three senior nnd three junior matches were played, Are town grounds being occupied, and one match was played at Tikorangl. The day was not at all a pleasant one, and except for those games played on grounds which wero tolerably well skeltered, the conditions were decidedly disagreeable. The high wind made accuracy almost Impossible, while the task of keeping the balls on the wickets was not easy. Following are the particulars of the matches:— SENIOR COMPETITIONS. NEW PLYMOUTH A v. FREEZING WORKS. The above teams mot at the Show Grounds, and the New Plymouth team secured a first Innings, win over their opponents by 42 runs. Only one member of the Freezing Wprks team rechod double figures, Kerr's score being 10. Johnson was In good bowling form, and accounted for 8 wickets, which cost lilm only 13 runs. Sutherland took two wtckota for 19. Now Plymouth made 84 runs, Heskett playing a good innings for 24, while Lash's 10 were made by good culcket. Sutherland scored 13, while 17 were put on for oitras, tho fielding beinc somewhat weak. Kerr and Burns shared the bowling honors for Freezing Works, each taking four wickets, and Clarke secured one. New Plymouth B v. High School played on tho School grounds, the home team winning on the first innings by 68 nins. New Ply-' mouth batted first but did not make a very good showing. ■ Only two of Iho team reached double figures, these being Purdue (16), and Qulckfall (11). The total score was 52. O'Halloran. Brown, and Palmer shared the bowling for School, The School tailing was on the whole good. Tho first two wickets were responsible for 85 out of {ho total af 121—Willis 29, and Hewitt 36—while useful scores were made hv O'Halloran, Osborne, and Snurt. all of whom passed double figures. TIKORANGL I The above teams mat at the Recreation Ground, Pukekura Park, the visitors being substantially defeated on the first Innings by 140 to 44. Tlkorangi's second innings was carried as far as the fall of the seventh wicket before stumps were drawn. None of the Tikorangl players reached double figures, Ihelr best score being P. Sarten and E. Sarten (I each, G. Lye 8, and Scrlmgeour 7. The bowling for Old Boys was held throughout by Bottrll! and Eggleton. The best innings of tho match was that of Bewley, who made 40 not out for Old Boys. Several other very useful scores were made, Including those of Osborne (20), Montoath ami Eggleton (18 each), and Oliver (15). A good many changes of bowlors were tried by Tikorangl, seven of the team being given a chance with tho Ball. The most successful was E. Sarten, who got four wickets for 46 runs. The above teams met at the Racecourse, and, after an Interesting game, the Freezing Works employees established a decided margin In their score over that of the School eleven. Several of the Freezing Works team reached double figures, the best score being that of Elms who made 42, Including 4 fours. Hartt.ell made 34, and Hoskln and Hellaby each made over 20. For the School, Cropper did the bulk of the bowling, taking six overs, while the other 19 overs were shared between seven bowlers. High School succeeded in compiling only 72 runs, and though most of the team managed to open an account only two reached double figures. The best scores were those of Holden, who made 15, and Grlgg, who made 10. The Walreka team, which was re-drafted from the senior to the junior competition, went In Bret and made a total of 120 runs, Morrison scoring 41, and Brokenshire and Prewln 16 each, the only other players to reach doublo being Gnylard (11). Coleman, Wright, and V. Wells were the most successful bowlers for Whiteley. each securing three wickets, the remaining wicket falling to S. White. Whiteley were not very successful, though they did bettor than on the previous Saturday. Their score totalled 37, of which S White made 15 and Cooper 8, while Dickson was 5 not out Hoffmann, Gardner, and Brokenshire sharedthe bowling for Walreka, Gardner, secured five wickets, Brokenshire and Hoffmann, two each, while Morrison had the last man in caught of the first ball he bowled. Forewau, who made 20 In the first innings, retired when his vmre reached 32 in the second Innings.
