SOLDIERS' MEMORIAL.
A SCHEME FOR BELL BLOCK. Owing to the Bell Block Soldiers' Memorial Committee being unable to agree on a suitable site for the memorial, a public meeting took place on Friday night. There was a very good attendance. Mr. J. S. Connett. chairman of the committee, explained the reason for which the meeting was called and mentioned the sites wtich were under discussion. After some uliscnssion it was proposed bv Mrs C. Street, and seconded liv Mr. ■Holmes, that the nature of the monument be a stone obelisk engraved with the nnmes of the fallen, the monument to be erected on the triangle opposite Pote's store at Bell Block, The motion •was carried unanimously. The committee have in hand about . £4po and hope to raise it to ffiOO with •the help of a subscription list which has been opened.
