SHEEP IN THE DOMINION.
LESS NOW THAN LAST YEAK. (By Wire. —Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Last Night. The sheep returns which were presented to Parliament to-day show that the number of slieep in the Dominion on April 30 was 25,528,554, a decrease of 709,748 on the previous year. The total for the North Island was 14,211,044 and for the South Island 11,01(1,(110. The number of sheepownera was 24005. The counties containing the largest number of sheep were:—Southland 1,225,800: TTawke's Buy 1.108,233; Arliliurton 1.021.348; Cook 1,012,594. _ The sheep wert distributed over districts as follows: Auckland 1,860,0(18; Napier and Gisborne 6,485,280; Wellington and West Coitst 5,885,960; Marlborough, Nelson and Westland, 1.385.870; Canterbury and Knikoura 5,437,901; Otago 4,792,779.
