They consent provided leave can be arranged with the Australian Defence Office. Will you kindly cable Australia using your influence in this direction, and invite the team to New Zealand." COUNCIL ANNUAL MEETING. •At the annual meeting of tlio Council, Mr, 1. J. Clark (Otago) presided. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman made special reference to the necessity of encouraging the game among the primary schools, from which would have to come the cricketers of the future. There was likely to be a recrudescence of sport In the coming season, and it was the duty of every one to foster clean sport of all kinds to tho very best of his ability. In a discussion which followed feeling reference was made to tho loss cricket had suffered by the demise of such players as C. McLeod F. Laver (Viotoria), E. V. Sale, W. R. Gibbs' and E. H. McCormick (Dominion crlcke;ers and sportsmen).
The election of .officers resulted as under - Patron, the Governor-General; president, Mr, E. H. Williams (Hawko's Bay); vice-presidents, the presidents of affiliated Associations; secretary, Mr. J. F. Peake; treasurer, Mr. W H Winsor; auditor, Mr. F. H. Lsbatt; management committee, Messrs. F. C. Raphael s F. Wilson, J. S. Barrett, E. A. Cayglll, D.' Reese (all of Canterbury). A communication from the Marlborough AsBociatlon drawing attention to the fact that players in smaller towns were not given a fair chance In representative and otner big matches played throughout the country, was referred to the Management Committee, tho suggestions contained in the letter being considered to show a good deal of common-sense. It was agreed that a cricketers' roll of honor should bo compiled. The South Canterbury Association protested against the present affiliation fee and asked that It be reduced from 63s to 10s 6d No action was taken, it being pointed out fJutt the work of the Council could not be carried out without reasonable financial support from the Associations.
